About Pizza’s Most Popular Topping

Pepperoni holds the great distinction of being the most popular pizza topping of all and the one type of pizza that is most frequently ordered. A type of dried salami, which is technically a cured sausage, pepperoni is a blend of meats that can be used for making many foods in addition to pizzas. It’s little caesars coupon code.
Interestingly enough, the word “pepperoni” actually has nothing at all to do with meats but rather a vegetable. Pepperoni is derived from the Italian word “peperone” meaning “bell pepper.”
Although it is widely available commercially, many people prefer to make their own pepperoni at home. Some ingredients needed to make pepperoni include pork, beef, curing salt, black pepper, garlic powder, paprika, sugar, anise, mustard, and fennel seeds, and a smoke flavoring.
Because pepperoni is high in fat and sodium turkey pepperoni has become a popular substitute as it contains considerably less of both. Pepperoni is, however, ideal for those who are following a low carbohydrate diet and it can be enjoyed along with cheese as a filling snack.
Pepperoni can also be used for making a simple sandwich or as fillers for hoagies and submarine sandwiches. If you do not have the time to make a pepperoni pizza use a bit of tomato sauce and a few slices of the cured meat on top of a bagel baked in the oven until brown.
Pepperoni pairs well with a variety of cheeses especially for pizzas including the usual mozzarella. Some other cheeses you may want to use for making pepperoni pizzas are cheddar, cheddar jack, fontina, goat, Monterey jack, parmesan, Swiss, and white cheddar.
Other deli meats such as capicola, prosciutto, and spicy salami are perfect for using along with pepperoni for creating a meat lover’s pizza. Some other toppings to consider include caramelized onions, mushrooms, olives, and peppers.
When using several toppings including greasy meats make sure you have a thick, sturdy crust that will be able to hold everything without breaking in the middle. If you want all of the various flavors but still prefer a thinner crust, use the thinnest possible slices of meats, and then cut the vegetables in small, manageable pieces.
