A lot of people want to make the Master Cleanse more complicated than it really needs to be. Dr. Burroughs first developed his Master Cleanse fast in 1941. He published his book about it, The Master Cleanser, in the Fifties. It’s a very short book, only around 50 pages or so. But it doesn’t need to be very long because the author keeps it short and simple and doesn’t fluff it out with lots f information you don’t need. It is still in print today and you can buy it for less than $10.00
In the book, Dr Burroughs explains how to do the Master Cleanse and what kinds of ingredients you need for it. There isn’t a lot required. The drink you use on the fast is made from freshly squeezed lemon juice, cayenne pepper and maple syrup. These three ingredients are why you will sometimes see the Stanley Burroughs fast referred to as the Lemonade diet, the maple syrup diet or the cayenne pepper cleanse. But all of these names are referring to the same thing.
You will also find some recipes in the book and menus for a vegetarian diet. There are also various home remedies for common problems like indigestion and gas.
Probably the most complicated aspect of the Master Cleanse is sticking to it for as long as you need to. But the instructions themselves are pretty simple and can be found in the book that started it all.
